Cutting Fuel Costs With Fleet Management
By Brian Albright, Field Technologies
Waste management company saves $150,000 in fuel costs using GPS fleet tracking.
Parks & Sons knows a lot about waste. The family-owned Sun City, AZ, company is a leading waste and recycling hauler in the region and operates a fleet of more than 85 vehicles. While waste is the company’s business, it recently eliminated a significant amount of wasted time by deploying a new GPS-based fleet management tool. Using the solution, the company has been able to optimize its routes and improve efficiency, resulting in an impressive six-figure fuel savings.
Before Parks & Sons began using GPS, dispatchers communicated with drivers via radio and mobile phones to locate drivers across the 50 to 65 routes the company operates. The call process was inefficient, and the company rarely knew exactly where its trucks were. “It was quite a mess for us to try to figure out where everyone was,” says Shawn Parks, business manager at Parks & Sons.
