Mobile workforces have become the norm. Three years ago, using mobile technology was a powerful differentiator. However, it is no longer enough just to have taken one or more business processes and transitioned them to a mobile device. Organizations must find new ways to take advantage of fast evolving mobile technologies to create and sustain competitive advantages.
Companies invest substantial amounts of time, effort and money into the identification, creation and deployment of a mobile enterprise. They look to enhance their competitive positions by automating and mobilizing business processes. But most mobile deployments fail to reach their true potentials. Supporting a mobile enterprise investment brings new challenges. In a typical mobile environment enterprise, the IT department maintains the infrastructure, help desks react when problems arise, occasional application updates are deployed, broken devices are sent back through the OEMs repair process, new devices are rolled out as the company scales up and new batteries are purchased when device users complain about battery performance.
Many organizations see the mobile deployment as a cost, as overhead or just another system to maintain. In order to thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace, companies must shift from that obsolete way of thinking to one that exploits mobile solutions in order to gain the highest profits and create the greatest differentiation.
