Triad Isotopes Saves $1 Million In Fleet-Related Costs With GPS Tracking Solution

Source: Spireon, Inc.

For Triad Isotopes, Inc., just-in-time delivery isn’t just another catch phrase. It’s the basis of their entire business. The second largest and fastest growing nuclear pharmacy chain in the nation, Triad formulates and delivers radiopharmaceuticals from its national network of 62 pharmacies that serve 4 million patients each year. Their products are used primarily for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions and cancer.

Here’s where the just-in-time urgency comes into play. Once prepared, the radioactive products start deteriorating by the minute. Explains Triad’s Director of Fleet and Pharmacy Logistics, Kris Peterinelli, “We literally have less than six hours between the time the product is formulated to the time it’s injected into a patient’s arm. That’s a very small window of delivery.”

To make these deliveries, Triad employs a fleet of 423 vehicles and 537 drivers (half of the company’s workforce), who are responsible for getting the product to the customers intact and on time. Because of the time-sensitive nature of the product, drivers are limited in the amount of pharmaceuticals and number of deliveries they can make with each trip.
