There has been increasing interest in deploying wireless M2M communications applications in a variety of markets thanks to rapidly falling hardware and service prices, as well as the advent of faster, more ubiquitous wireless networks. In September, ABI Research forecast that cellular M2M connections would triple from their current number of 75 million by 2014, and the major wireless carriers are all now targeting the M2M space as a growth area.
