Mobile computing and wireless data communications have become an almost unavoidable part of doing business in the United States. Mobile workers are accessing a myriad of business applications — everything from email to mission-critical field service solutions — via laptops, smartphones, and a variety of rugged devices. "More and more, customers are looking for increased productivity and levels of collaboration," says Marc Rohleder, EIS program management director at T-Mobile USA. "Organizations need and want to extend beyond the normal desktop computing experience. As such, we'll continue to see enterprise collaboration tools, the future ‘killer applications,' extended to the mobile environment, particularly as smartphones become even more capable."
