The Apple iPad - Blending Style And Content For Enterprise Mobility
Mobile devices are constantly changing. From the large, monochromatic PDAs of the 1990s to the sleek and stylish Smartphones of recent years, handsets have constantly evolved and improved to keep up with changing business requirements. The introduction of the Apple iPad heralds a new era in enterprise mobility in the form of the adaptable touchscreen tablet PC. Tablet PCs have been available for years, but the iPad's design, usability and promising future developments have brought tablet PCs to the forefront for both business and personal use.
CommonTime's mobile enterprise solution mSuite is now compatible with the iPad, bringing to it the same great features that mSuite delivers to the iPhone. Early support for the iPad demonstrates CommonTime's commitment to staying ahead of the curve in enterprise mobility.
"We see the iPad as a key device for the enterprise" comments CommonTime CEO, Ian Knight "The iPad brings a wealth of new options to both newcomers and veterans of mobile working - it blends the mobility of a Smartphone with the usability of a laptop to provide the perfect solution for a number of mobile working practices that may have previously been overlooked."
mSuite provides seamless access to corporate messaging and collaboration tools on the iPad including email, calendaring and contacts.
Following the success of the iPad, a plethora of other tablets have been announced by various manufacturers including HP, Dell, Nokia and Asus. Details of a Google tablet have not yet been officially announced, but Google CEO Eric Schmidt recently confirmed that his company has been developing an Android based tablet.
"At the moment, we can't know for certain how other tablet PCs will be received" Ian Knight continued "If the popularity of the iPad is anything to go by, these Smartphone-laptop hybrids will be here to stay. It's an exciting time to be at the cutting edge of enterprise mobility, and CommonTime is perfectly positioned to provide the solutions for any mobile working requirement, from corporate messaging and collaboration to bespoke mobile applications."
CommonTime recently released their rapid application development tool mDesign Studio, which provides business process managers with a simple yet powerful tool to create mobile applications without the need for programming knowledge. The initial release is compatible with Windows Mobile, with compatibility coming soon for iPhone OS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and Android platform.
