TCS Patent Enables Authorized Access To Remote Information On The Web, Databases
43rd Patented Technology Innovation Facilitates Secure Retrieval of Data by Mobile Devices
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission critical wireless communications, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,024,474 titled, "A System and Method to Publish Information From Servers to Remote Monitor Devices."
This patent discloses information on how a mobile device, equipped with a Web browser, can select and receive information from internal company servers or from the Internet. An organization's administrator can determine and set the priorities for access to company information by putting appropriate controls in place as to who can retrieve information from behind firewalls, and what information they have access to obtain.
About the Invention
A Web server monitors which servers are available to a mobile device or remote workstation and sends the mobile device or workstation the list of available servers. Such servers may only include those authorized servers that the mobile device or workstation can access. Verification of access levels can be done by a digital certificate containing the necessary authorizations. A mobile device or workstation user with a Web browser can request information in the form of a HTTP protocol message. A Web server gathers the requested information and sends it back to the mobile device or workstation, preferably as an XML page, whereby the information can be viewed using a standard Web browser.
