Army deploys rugged mobile computers to help defeat roadside bombs

HOLTSVILLE, NY– Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), The Enterprise Mobility Company™, today announced it has completed a task order for $10 million in product and services as a subcontractor to GTSI in support of the Product Director for Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) initiative. Symbol MC70 mobile computers, as part of a Counter IED system, are being utilized by the Army to help defeat remote-controlled improvised explosive devices, or roadside bombs for soldiers serving abroad.
The Pentagon has stated that 50 percent of military personnel deaths and injuries since the war in Iraq began in March 2003 are attributed to roadside bombs. To help protect Coalition Forces, the Army deployed Symbol mobile computers with the potential for expansion based on the customer needs and technology requirements.
