Great strides have been made in recent years to boost productivity through the use of mobile technology. To better understand how mobile technology can be used to further these advances, Kronos Incorporated and the American Payroll Association surveyed 1,362 APA members about self-service options, productivity, and the workforce.

business and workforce characteristics

A company’s size and workforce location—whether they work on-site or remotely—can affect productivity and what tools employees require to be effective. Of the members surveyed, 38.3% work at organizations with more than 20 locations; 11.6% have 11-20 locations; 17.6% have 5-10; 17.2% have 2-4 locations; and 15.4% have only one location.

As business needs have changed throughout the years, it is more common to have a mobile workforce—employees aren’t always tethered to a desk. During the survey, 18.7% said they have employees who travel from site to site; 15.4% have workers who telecommute or work from home; and 15.2% have employees who work on the road.
