Summit And Datalogic Achieve CCX Version 4 Certification

Summit Data Communications announced recently that its SDC-CF10G compact flash radio module has been certified for Version 4 of Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) for ASDs, or application-specific devices. Summit is a provider of wireless LAN, or Wi-Fi , radios that have earned the Cisco Compatible seal on Windows CE and Windows Mobile, the leading operating systems for mobile computers and other business-critical mobile devices.

Summit also announced that the Datalogic Falcon 4400 Series mobile computers have been certified for CCX V4 using the SDC-CF10G radio. According to Tom Burke, Director of Americas Product Group for Datalogic Mobile Inc., all the latest mobile computers from Datalogic will be certified for CCX V4 in the near future. "Datalogic is excited to be one of the first in the automatic identification and data collection industry to provide CCX V4 certification across our mobile product range," said Burke.

With Cisco products in nearly two-thirds of enterprise Wi-Fi infrastructures, organizations of all sizes and types demand that their mobile devices bear the Cisco Compatible seal. When it is earned through CCX V4 testing, that seal indicates interoperability with Cisco's flagship Wi-Fi infrastructure solution, the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, and support for a rich set of Cisco Wi-Fi innovations.

"Users and administrators of business-critical mobile devices place a high value on CCX," said Ron Seide, Summit's president. "We engineer CCX V4 support into every one of our radios so that they provide full support of the controller-based Cisco Unified Wireless Network and a broad range of features for enhanced voice, improved quality of service, centralized administration, and robust security."

The security capabilities required to pass CCX V4 tests ensure compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a critical requirement in retail applications handling credit card information. "Our retail customers are very concerned about PCI compliance," said Burke. "Many have wireless LAN infrastructures from Cisco and increasingly those infrastructures include Cisco controllers. Full support for CCX with a controller-based architecture is huge."

"Today's businesses use a broad range of devices that require wireless connectivity," said Chris Kozup, Senior Manager for Mobility Solutions Marketing at Cisco. "The continuous evolution of the Cisco Compatible Extensions program ensures that wireless connectivity is seamless, secure, and manageable. To ensure a consistent user experience, organizations should look for devices that support a current version of CCX."

An in-depth white paper on the value of CCX for mobile computers is available in the Documentation section of the Summit Web site, www.summitdatacom.com. For details on the Cisco Compatible Extensions program, visit www.cisco.com/go/ciscocompatible/wireless.
