Spirent Authorized By CTIA For LTE A-GPS Over The Air Testing
Authorization of Spirent-based Solutions Helps Enable Key CTIA Mandate
Sunnyvale, Calif. - Spirent Communications, a leader in testing wireless networks, services and devices, today announced that the 8100 Location Technology Solution is shown in CTIA's newly published list of authorized equipment for LTE Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) Over-The-Air (OTA) Testing in accordance with the CTIA Test Plan for Wireless Device Over-the-Air Performance, version 3.2.1. The list, which was published on August 13, reveals that the only solutions authorized by the CTIA to support this key new test requirement are based on Spirent platforms. As an authorized platform, the Spirent 8100 will enable test labs to begin submitting certification data per version 3.2.1 for their customers' devices in the near future, with full enforcement of testing to the new test plan version expected by the end of 2013.
The preceding version of the CTIA Test Plan (version 3.1) addressed A-GPS in GSM, CDMA and WCDMA devices. Version 3.2.1 adds the requirement to support additional protocols that enable accurate A-GPS position fixes on LTE networks, including SUPL 2.0 and full support of RRLP and LPP. Since an anechoic chamber is a critical part of any OTA test solution, Spirent has partnered with leading OTA chamber vendors to deliver the most comprehensive test solutions to the market. Many of the world's leading wireless device test labs have already invested in solutions based on the Spirent platform and are in the process of obtaining CTIA authorization, which will shortly enable commercial availability of this critical test requirement.
"Over-the-air testing of A-GPS is a high priority for LTE phones launched in North America, so timely enforcement of version 3.2.1 of the CTIA's plan is critical," said Rajat Agarwal, Spirent's director of product management. "The industry expects Spirent to maintain its role of providing leading-edge LBS test solutions, and we have chosen to collaborate with OTA chamber vendors who are also industry leaders. This leadership is highlighted by the fact that solutions based on Spirent's platform are the only ones authorized by the CTIA to date for its LTE A-GPS OTA test requirements."
LTE A-GPS OTA testing to version 3.2.1 of the CTIA Test Plan is an available upgrade for Spirent's marke leading test solution for A-GPS, and as part of our collaboration between Spirent and leading OTA chamber manufacturers. Existing users of Spirent-based GSM, CDMA, and WCDMA A-GPS OTA test solutions can easily upgrade to add this new LTE capability.
