Sonim And Polycom To Demonstrate PoC-Based Conference Calling Application At CTIA
Sonim Technologies, the leader in enabling wireless data networks to deliver voice services including the Push-to-Talk (PTT) capability, and Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the world's leader in video and voice conferencing, conference bridges and integrated web collaboration solutions, today announced that Sonim and Polycom will demonstrate at CTIA a compelling conference calling application utilizing the Push to talk over Cellular (PoC) specification that enables users to instantly initiate a conference call from their PTT "buddy list."
The solution is designed to complement PoC offerings by providing a seamless way to migrate a call from PTT to full-duplex conference call with a touch of a button. It is an application designed for wireless operators as a way to help drive revenue and usage minutes, while reducing customer churn. This offering is based on Polycom's MobileMeeting instant group calling application, which was announced today.
"This is the first in a series of enterprise and consumer applications for the PoC platform, leveraging the extendibility and flexibility of the PoC specification," said Wade Vesey, chief marketing officer for Sonim. "Conference calls are a daily routine for business users, and this application removes the hassle of scheduling and distributing call-in information, instead enabling the user to quickly browse who is available and initiate conference calls on the fly."
"Instant conference calling is a natural complement to current Push-to-Talk capabilities, adding the ability to segue from a group Push-to-Talk session into a high-quality, full-duplex conference call within the wireless network," said Bill Ernstrom, senior vice president and general manager of Polycom's Voyant division. "We are excited to work with Sonim to bring this powerful and revenue generating application to mobile operators."
The PoC specification, defined and supported by leading wireless vendors throughout the wireless industry, including Sonim, is the standard for carrier-grade Push-to-Talk solutions. Sonim's leverage of this standard for advanced wireless instant group calling solutions ensures full interoperability between users across multiple handsets and networks and greatly enhances the value of this and subsequent applications that Sonim will develop for wireless carriers to bring to the enterprise and consumer markets.
Sonim Technologies is exhibiting at CTIA Wireless 2004, booth 2374. Please contact Bethany Kleparek to arrange meetings and demonstrations: bkleparek@sonimtech.com. Polycom is exhibiting at booth 4175, 4665.
