Socket Communications Awarded US Patent For Handling Expansion Card And Module "Card Information Structure"

Patent Allows for Enhanced Configuration Capabilities and Flexible Product Deployment

Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity products, today announced the award of a U.S. Patent number 7,003,627 titled Deferred Tuple Space Programming of Expansion Modules. This invention permits deferring the final provisioning of an expansion card's or module's CIS in the attribute memory space of expansion cards or modules for portable hosts. This enables expansion cards or modules to be distributed, sold, and installed by end users prior to the final provisioning. For complete technical details, please refer to the patent's disclosure.

"The technology in this patent has been implemented in our MobilityIC line of CompactFlash interface chips," said Len Ott, CTO of Socket Communications. "This technology enables Socket and our OEM customers purchasing cards, modules and ASIC chip-level products to customize finished products without major impact on the manufacturing process. This intellectual property also assists in managing materials by helping to eliminate excessive inventory for products that differ only slightly. This patent strengthens our growing patent portfolio. We have over 20 patent applications pending, and are focusing our IP efforts in the area of mobility. Having a stronger patent portfolio gives us an enhanced market position, protection for our products, increased market barriers of entry for our competition, and opens up new licensing opportunities and possible revenue streams."
