Analyst Commentary: The SharePoint Myth

It appears that SharePoint is continuing to gain strength and will become a category 5 storm that wreaks havoc on the likes of Documentum, FileNet, and all the other ECM systems. That is, at least until more people realize that SharePoint will not replace their existing file share or fix the problems inherent in their document management infrastructure on its own. If you purchase SharePoint with these lofty expectations, it may very well become just another system taking up space in the server room, and you'll soon be waiting for the next SharePoint-like system to come along and save you.
