The laptop is a stopgap, a bridge to the next level of mobile computing. The first laptop on the market, though revolutionary at the time, had less computing capability than today's Nintendo DS, and it cost 50 times more. For the most part, these devices were used to connect traveling business people to their home office networks so they could continue to work while on the road.
