Automating that process has dramatically cut the time techs previously spent performing those functions and largely minimized the need for handwriting on multi-part carbonless snap-sets. Deploying handheld devices permitted companies to send data and required forms directly to the techs and to receive reports from the field electronically. For many residential and commercial pest management companies, adding mobile full-page document printers for printing invoices, estimates, site diagrams and inspection reports was the next logical step.

Converting full-size multi-part snap sets for full-page mobile printers was a relatively easy transition, as well as the only acceptable solution for large commercial customers’ log-book binders. Consumer-grade “mobile” inkjets were used initially, with mixed results. Many were too heavy or bulky for techs to carry and operate on site. Brittle plastic parts led to breakage and failures in the field. These devices also relied on inks that could freeze or leak in extreme cold or heat. So printing full-page reports, service slips, invoices, and other documents using mobile inkjets often forced techs back to their vehicles or another place offsite to print – wasting time between engagements.
