Asset tracking is a challenge for almost every company, even those with assets that are confined in a relatively controlled space. Manufacturers struggle to locate tools and carts. Hospitals have difficulty keeping track of wheelchairs and IV pumps.
Imagine, then, the challenge of keeping tabs on thousands of assets dispersed over several states with only intermittent information as to their whereabouts. That was the problem faced by Covenant Transport, a trucking firm that has deployed a realtime fleet tracking solution to manage its 3,800 trailers. Armed with better location data, the company hopes to pull hundreds of expensive trailers out of service as it optimizes its asset utilization.
