NetMotion Wireless Enhances Mobile Security And Connectivity For JEA

NetMotion Wireless, the industry-leading provider of mobile secure remote access solutions, has announced that JEA, one of the largest municipal utilities in the United States, selected NetMotion Wireless's Mobility XE as its mobile VPN solution. Mobility XE provides JEA's field workers with secure, uninterrupted connections while traveling through the different wireless networks over the 841 square miles that define JEA's service region. This ensures that the residents of Jacksonville, FL and parts of three adjacent counties receive working electricity, water and sewage services.

JEA, formerly known as Jacksonville Electric Authority, depends on its field workers to conduct regular maintenance site visits. Additionally, when problems arise (e.g. breaks in water and sewage mains, broken meters or power outages), they are the first responders for the utility. The field workers require secure and reliable wireless communications in order to access mission-critical information in real-time, while on the road. However, dropped connections between wireless networks -- which lasted 20-30 minutes -- were limiting productivity and efficiency.

To address this problem, JEA evaluated several solutions, including IPSec and SSL VPN products.
