Mobile Solution: Schindler Elevator Lifts Efficiency w/ MobileAware
MobileAware, the provider of Mobile Service Infrastructure (MSI), recently reported that Schindler Elevator Corporation, the North American operation of one of the world's leading manufacturers of elevators, escalators and moving walks, has significantly improved its dispatching operation for maintenance, repair and construction technicians using MobileAware's mobile messaging product, ExpressQ.
The solution, which enables the wireless transmission of repair and maintenance data between Schindler technicians and the company's Center for Service Excellence, has resulted in improvements in dispatching, call close out, overall field technician productivity and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, Schindler Elevator Corporation employs approximately 3,100 field technicians throughout the United States and Canada. These field employees had previously used landline-based telephones, two-way radios and pagers to communicate with headquarters. Schindler undertook a search for a quicker, more efficient process to improve time in decision-making and problem resolution. In 1998 Schindler selected ExpressQ to power a wireless field force solution that enables repair and maintenance technicians to access site and repair histories, dispatching information, parts ordering, nationwide messaging, technical databases, expert support and much more.
ExpressQ's functionality, in particular the product's guaranteed message delivery and device and network independence, is critical to helping ensure Schindler technicians remain productive as they move in and out of wireless network coverage. Following the success of Schindler's mobile workforce solution within the company's field service operations, Schindler deployed a similar mobile solution for its construction and modernization employees in early 2006. Construction and modernization workers can now quickly and accurately record job progress, order replacement parts, track quality control and record time on each job site. MobileAware also enables these technicians to take photos of job sites and parts, accompany these photos with recorded audio clips, and instantly transmit these files back to Schindler's headquarters, providing managers with detailed job site data for further instruction and for Schindler's own corporate records.
"Until we installed ExpressQ, effectively managing all the reporting from over 3,000 field technicians across North America was an extremely challenging task," said Keith Rodgers, Vice President, Service Technology and Methods for Schindler Elevator Corporation. "MobileAware's software has proven to be extremely flexible, allowing us to integrate it with practically any network or device. Since our deployment of ExpressQ, we have been able to better record and act upon issues communicated to us from our technicians at job sites. This has greatly improved our overall communications with the field as well as provided our customers with the best possible levels of service."
"Schindler is one of the many enterprises that are realizing the business benefits of deploying MobileAware technology to improve the productivity of their mobile workforce and enhance customer satisfaction," commented Kevin McCloskey, MobileAware's chief executive officer. "The effectiveness and efficiency of field services has a direct impact on corporate liability, consumer safety, customer satisfaction and corporate profitability. To achieve the maximum return from their investment in mobility, enterprises now need to put in place a unified mobile service infrastructure that is flexible and future-proofed with respect to the migration to the next-generation enterprise architecture."
