Syclo, a leading developer of mobile computing solutions, recently announced its SMART Task Tracker, a product developed for intense job-tracking required to speed the completion and increase the accuracy of plant turnarounds, shutdowns and outages, has been named a finalist for Plant Engineering magazine's 2007 Product of the Year awards.

Recently released and used by a major oil and gas producer, Syclo's SMART Task Tracker helps plant turnarounds, shutdowns and outages to be done faster and more accurately by eliminating excess foot traffic and delays caused by paper-driven sign-offs. SMART Task Tracker is designed to integrate into multiple back-end applications, including the EAM system, project management and compliance reporting software.

"We're honored by the recognition from the reviewers at Plant Engineering Magazine. We appreciate the recognition, but are not surprised buy the interest in automating the thousands of tasks involved with a plant turnaround. We worked closely with a major energy provider to make this product work," Rich Padula, CEO and President of Syclo, said. "If you can shorten a refinery turnaround by a day or two it could mean millions in savings for the petrochemical company that scheduled the event."

SMART Task Tracker was developed to help manage major overhauls, or turnarounds, of sites — whether they are refineries, offshore platforms or petrochemical complexes. These overhauls are big events involving up to 200,000 tasks. Contractors and technicians swarm about the facility as critical pieces of equipment are shut down, serviced and restarted. Because downtime costs money, keeping the turnaround time as short as possible is significant. The coordination of the whole turnaround on paper requires masses of signatures on innumerable pieces of paper and is prone to human error.

SMART Task Tracker is the latest Syclo product to be designated as a finalist or winner by Plant Engineering. Previously, SMART Schedule received the magazine's finalist designation in 2005. In 2001, SMART Work Manager was named Plant Engineering's Product of the Year for the maintenance software category; SMART Inventory received the same recognition in 2002; and SMART Auditor also won the same honor in 2003.

Plant Engineering Product of the Year finalists will be featured in the magazine's November issue. Unlike other sponsored industry honors awarded at the editorial team's discretion, winners for Plant Engineering's product of the year awards are determined by a vote from pre-qualified readers – the plant engineers themselves. Plant Engineering, the leading problem-solving information source for America's industrial plant engineers, is available online at www.mt-online.com.
