August 31, 2006 -- LXE Inc., a leading manufacturer of rugged wireless computers that improve the performance of supply-chain execution applications, announced today that it has been honored by global growth consulting company Frost & Sullivan with the 2006 Product Line Strategy Leadership Award for LXE’s efforts in developing and commercializing mobile RFID systems.  The award is presented annually to companies that have demonstrated meaningful insight into customer needs and product demands.

“LXE’s development of the mobile forklift-mounted RFID reader reflects a perceptive understanding of existing market challenges related to functionality and cost of deployments,” says Priyanka Gouthaman, research analyst with Frost & Sullivan. “The uniqueness of LXE’s forklift-mounted solutions lies in their flexible design allowing use across a broad spectrum of applications and in their ability to be upgraded as new technologies emerge.”

LXE’s line of rugged vehicle-mounted RFID readers includes:

  • The RX1 rugged lift truck-mounted RFID reader -- a sophisticated and versatile system that enables customers to garner the benefits of RFID deep within their warehouse well beyond shipping and receiving.  The key to the RX1 reader’s versatility is the combination of the intelligent RX1 reader with application specific antennae, synchronized with forklift operations to ensure that the unit reads the right items at the right time.  More information on the RX1 RFID reader can be found at http://www.lxe.com/us/products/default.aspx?id=55 .

  • The RX2 RFID reader addresses a need for a “simple,” easy-to-install, vehicle-mounted RFID reader that can be used for standard RFID-based forklift pallet move applications, such as shipping, receiving, picking and put-aways, in which Electronic Product CodeTM (EPC) RFID-based identification of pallet loads and locations is used.  More information on the RX2 RFID reader can be found at http://www.lxe.com/pdf/RX2Datasheet.pdf .

LXE's mobile RFID product line also includes solutions for handheld operations. The MX3-RFID rugged handheld RFID reader integrates a UHF reader for EPC tag-reading into LXE's highly successful MX3X rugged mobile computer. For non-EPC operations, LXE offers its MX5 handheld computer, integrating a variety of UHF, HF and LF readers for active and passive RFID tag support.

“We are pleased to receive this award from Frost & Sullivan that recognizes the significant advancements LXE has made across our RFID product line,” said Dick Sorenson, director RFID products for LXE.  “This award is especially meaningful, because it is further validation that the significant efforts we’ve made in developing our RFID product line are on target.”
