Partnership Lets Mobile Worker Complete More Tasks At Point of Service

EMS Global Resource Management, a division of mobile connectivity leader EMS Technologies, Inc., recently announced that Datamax O'Neil, a global provider of receipt and label printing solutions, has tested and certified the LXE Marathon field computer for use in the field with Datamax-O'Neil's extensive line of rugged portable printers. To bring this new solution to a wider array of enterprises in both supply chain logistics and field force automation — including warehousing, manufacturing, public safety, and utilities/telco/cable — LXE and Datamax-O'Neil have also agreed to an Independent Hardware Vendor partnership.

"A worker loses time and efficiency every time he walks back to the truck or the retail counter to complete a task," said Bill Roeder, Vice President and Deputy General Manager, EMS Global Resource Management. "That seemingly small increment of time becomes substantial when multiplied throughout a day and across an entire workforce. By delivering laptop computing power and functionality in a rugged ergonomic form factor, the Marathon field computer gives a worker the ability to complete more tasks at the point of service. Our partnership with Datamax-O'Neil makes that value proposition even stronger, as workers can reliably print receipts, labels, and other critical documentation."

In communication certification tests, the Marathon Field Computer connected wirelessly via Bluetooth and/or 802.11g to Datamax-O'Neil's full family of receipt printers, which include the Apex series, OC2, Andes 3, microFlash 2te, and microFlash 4te, as well as the LP3, RL4, and OC3 label printers. These printers can be carried by hand or attached to a worker's belt. Applications include direct store delivery, retail queue-busting and customer receipts, either within an 802.11 network or in the field via Bluetooth. The combined LXE/Datamax-O'Neil hardware offering also offers credit card processing through a magnetic stripe reader, 1D and 2D barcode scanning and printing, and signature capture. The Marathon device is fully rugged, IP 65 rated, and drop tested 4 feet (1.2m) to concrete, while Datamax-O'Neil microFlash and all-new RL4 printers are ultra-rugged and feature a 6 foot (1.8m) drop specification.

"We are pleased to add LXE as a partner as they are a proven performer in supply chain applications and have a reputation for developing solutions that meet customer requirements," said Tony Revis, vice president OEM and alliances for Datamax-O'Neil. "The Marathon Field Computer is evidence of this commitment by delivering efficiencies on a task-by-task level. Combined with our Datamax-O'Neil field-tested printing solutions, both supply chain and field service enterprises can gain significant efficiencies while delivering a higher level of service and ROI."
