Lumension Partners With Odyssey To Bring Mobile Device Management Onto Lumension Endpoint Management And Security Suite

Lumension also partners with Norman and Dell to extend product reach

In the 2012 State of the Endpoint report by Ponemon Institute, 66% of IT reports their networks are not more secure than one year ago and looking to 2012, risk imposed by mobile devices on the network is their greatest concern. In response to this growing insecurity, Lumension, a global leader in endpoint management and security, has announced a partnership with Odyssey Software, Inc. to deliver Lumension Mobile Device Management, MDM, on the Lumension Endpoint Management and Security Suite, L.E.M.S.S, and other partnerships that extend the platform¹s reach around the globe.

L.E.M.S.S. simplifies IT systems management, expands operational visibility and delivers more effective security through the integration of Lumension Patch and Remediation, Lumension Device Control, Security Configuration Management, Power Management and Content Wizard. Lumension Intelligent Whitelisting is available on L.E.M.S.S. as an additional module, which includes Lumension Application Control, Lumension AntiVirus and Lumension Patch and Remediation.

In the recent past, enterprises needed to manage a small number of mobile devices, many of which ran on the same operating system,² said Mark Gentile, CEO, Odyssey. ³Today, IT departments are tasked with implementing an MDM solution to manage an influx of devices, running on a variety of operating systems. It is more important than ever organizations deploy a strategy that is both scalable and comprehensive.

Thanks to the new partnership, organizations relying on L.E.M.S.S. will soon have the ability to manage, inventory and secure mobile device hardware and software, set policy configuration and desired security levels, and remotely wipe Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices. The solution will have Apple and Android capabilities with BlackBerry, Microsoft Exchange and Windows Mobile device capabilities to come in subsequent releases.

The services that IT organizations provide to mobile devices will increasingly resemble those provided to PCs. Organizations are primarily focused on mobile device security; however, as mobile devices become more strategic, they will provide more-comprehensive services, such as application delivery and troubleshooting. A support technician should be able to support a user's PC, smartphone and tablet from the same console, wrote Terrence Cosgrove in the August 2011 Gartner report Mobile Device and PC Configuration Life Cycle Management Tools Market Update.

Allowing employees to bring personal mobile devices onto the network is not really a question anymore,² said Pat Clawson, Chairman and CEO, Lumension.

The productivity that organizations gain from this capability is too great to ignore. IT is now focused on how best to manage and secure this new way of doing business and our partnership with Odyssey provides our customers with effective and efficient mobile device management built into an already strong, layered security approach. After all, a mobile device is simply another endpoint that needs to be managed and secured.²

In addition to adding mobile device management, L.E.M.S.S. v. 7.2 will also deliver added visibility with the integration of the cloud-based Lumension Endpoint Integrity Service. This end of quarter one beta platform will allow users to validate the integrity of both OS and third-party application software on their endpoints, resulting in better trust decisions.

Additional Significant Partnerships
Lumension expanded its OEM partnership with Norman, which will bring L.E.M.S.S. to new and existing customers and channel partners throughout Europe.

Dell Kace will also include Lumension Patch and Remediation on their new appliances for medium-sized businesses, the K Series Advanced, thanks to a newly expanded partnership. The K Series Advanced appliances offer enterprise-level capabilities at affordable prices with the ability to easily scale as a business grows.
