Leveraging Tablet PCs With Mobile Printers In DSD Operations

Source: MobileDemand

This article by Matt Miller from MobileDemand takes a look at adding mobile printers to your current mobile computing and communications solution, specifically in the direct store delivery space to open the door to additional efficiencies and new revenue generation opportunities. Mobile printing combined with rugged tablet PCs can save drivers significant time by allowing them to skip having to write anything with pen-and-paper and simply print everything from orders to delivery receipts, invoices, and other documentation. This can all be completed and provided for the customer immediately at the point of delivery.

With the tablet PC automatically capturing all transaction data and then uploading it instantly to the central database or storing it for end-of-day transfer, there is no paperwork to turn in, no load sheets, or daily sales summaries to create and print. Automating all these processes eliminates manual tasks that waste time and are mistake-prone allowing drivers to make more deliveries during the day or spend more time interacting and building relationships with customers.

This article provides some functions that can be performed with a rugged tablet and mobile printing, including:

  • Save paper and ink. Mobile printers use less paper because they produce smaller documents, and most use ink-free ink-free imaging. You’ll save postage and related expenses associated with traditional invoicing processes, too, since drivers can literally print out and hand an invoice to the customer.
  • Eliminate redundant data entry.
