Case Study: Keystone Excavating Goes Real Time With A Mobile Workforce Management Solution

Keystone Excavating Ltd., of Calgary, Alberta, is regarded as a leader, not only for its strong hold on the excavating market, but for its decision to implement a mobile workforce management solution.

In business for close to 30 years, Keystone knows that efficiency is a key to success. That's why their manual paper processes and radio communications were no longer making the cut when it came to managing workflow in relation to employees, hours, clients, locations, and their more than 250 pieces of heavy equipment. Holly Goulard, Keystone's Controller in charge of spearheading this project, cites an example of the inefficiencies inherent with the manual system, "When I started at Keystone, one timesheet was handled 11 times before being filed." In another example, truck tickets and timesheets could be lost or submitted after the client was billed for the job, and Keystone would have to absorb those costs.

Finding technology that would automate these processes proved challenging. Holly was told by leaders in technology that the system they wanted did not yet exist.
