iPass Launches Free Wi-Fi Hotspot Finder For Handhelds
iPass, Inc., a global provider of services that unify management of enterprise mobility, recently announced a version of its popular Hotspot Finder designed for smartphone use. The iPass Handheld Hotspot Finder—available for free at www.ipass.com/mobilehotspot—helps mobile workers to locate nearby Wi-Fi hotspots in the iPass network of more than 95,000 broadband locations in over 80 countries using the Web browser on their smartphones.
With the majority of the mobile workforce already equipped with both a laptop and a smartphone, according to Yankee Group, mobile workers need tools that leverage the benefits of each device. The iPass Handheld Hotspot Finder makes it easy and convenient for business travelers toting multiple devices to identify nearby hotspots while on the move. This search tool complements the new iPassConnect mobility service for individuals, also introduced today. Together, the Hotspot Finder and iPassConnect mobility service give mobile workers a powerful combination for staying connected, practically anywhere in the world.
"Mobile workers shouldn't have to plan their connectivity each morning, especially when they can't be certain where the day might take them" said Joel Wachtler, vice president, marketing and strategy, iPass. "Our goal is to provide a complete mobility toolkit, and the iPass Handheld Hotspot Finder plays a key role, allowing users to find nearby locations on-demand and stay productive. Our new Handheld Hotspot Finder, along with our new iPassConnect mobility service, should be on every road warrior's 'must-have' list"
After connecting to the iPass Handheld Hotspot Finder web page, the user simply inputs his location (city and state, and zip code or airport location) and the hotspot finder generates a list of all available local hotspots. Selecting a hotspot from the list delivers specifics about the venue as well as a local map.
The iPass global virtual network comprises more than 95,000 Wi-Fi hotpots, mobile broadband, Ethernet and dial-up in over 160 countries. In the U.S., iPass users can connect at T-Mobile HotSpot locations like Starbucks coffeehouses, Borders Books & Music stores, FedEx Kinko's Office and Print Centers, leading hotel brands, virtually every major airport and the airline clubs of American, Delta, United and US Airways.
