Icomera Introduces Rugged Wi-Fi Cellular Router For Rail And Road Vehicles

Moovbox M200R mobile broadband gateway supports multiple 3G, EV-DO and WiMAX connections with GPS
Seattle, WA (PRWeb) -- Icomera, the world's leading provider of cellular broadband gateways, has announced the introduction of a ruggedized, industrial cellular router and Wi-Fi access point designed for demanding transport applications. The Moovbox M200R mobile broadband gateway is targeted at markets where high-specification equipment must endure harsh environments; these include light rail, commuter trains and buses, and first responders such as fire, ambulance and police. The Moovbox acts as a bridge between a vehicle and multiple high-speed cellular data networks, providing Wi-Fi access and an Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) for connecting on-board systems such as CCTV, telematics, automated announcement, and e-ticketing. The Moovbox also features built-in GPS for real-time vehicle tracking, and a hosted remote management service for live, fleet-wide monitoring of multiple Moovbox devices in the field. Icomera will be demonstrating its product line to transit authorities from across the United States at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) conference in Seattle WA which runs from May 3-6 2009.
"With the introduction of the M200R we are addressing a very real market opportunity for rugged mobile cellular routers," said Michael Sigvardsson, Chief Executive Officer at Icomera. "In the United States alone there are over 650,000 road-based public transport and emergency vehicles, and a further 19,000 passenger trains and 26,000 freight locomotives. On-board Internet connectivity is becoming increasing vital to provide real-time communications for these fleets, whether connecting passengers to their email, or mission-critical systems to central monitoring facilities. With our Moovbox family of fixed and mobile broadband gateways, we intend to be the Cisco of transportation - delivering world-class industrial-grade communication systems for a wide range of road and rail applications and building significant market share as a result."
The Moovbox M200R delivers two concurrent wide area network (WAN) connections including 3G UMTS/HSPA, EV-DO Rev A and WiMAX 802.16e, and utilizes patented SureWAN™ intelligent routing technology to switch seamlessly between different networks without interruption. The Moovbox provides an always-on high-speed connection to the vehicle throughout a journey by choosing the best carrier network over which to route traffic, using WiMAX in the urban core and switching to 3G/HSPA in suburban areas, for example. The new gateway meets the stringent EN50155 safety compliance requirements for electronic equipment on rolling stock, as well as E Mark (2004/104/EC) compliance for passenger vehicles, both originally European standards but now generally accepted as critical technical benchmarks for transportation worldwide.
Icomera customers include some of the largest names in passenger transport, including Arriva, Stagecoach, National Express and FirstGroup, the latter owning iconic American brands of Greyhound and Laidlaw (now First Student). Moovbox systems are deployed in over 22 countries and serve over 50,000 Wi-Fi sessions per week on trains, buses, and coaches. More information is available online at www.icomera.com.
