GPS Solution: TCS Introduces Xypoint Reference Network For Location Fixes Of Mobile Devices
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.(TCS), one of the leader in mission-critical wireless data communications, recently announced its Xypoint Reference Network for delivery of satellite assistance data in support of the emergence of Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) services. A positioning determination solution for wireless operators worldwide, the Xypoint Reference Network enables operators to provide a full range of data elements used by A-GPS devices to reduce the amount of time required to calculate an initial position fix of GPS-enabled communications devices. The "A" in assisted-GPS enables wireless operators to enhance the user experience with quicker location determination.
"Without assistance data, the first location fix from a GPS-enabled device could easily take more than three minutes," stated Drew Morin, Chief Technology Officer for TCS. "With assistance data, the initial fix can be delivered in a few seconds. The Xypoint Reference Network provides this assistance data reference anywhere in the world for GPS location-based wireless services. These now include not only navigation and tracking, but increasingly sophisticated services such as location-based messaging and advertising. These premium and enhanced services that suit mobile subscribers' lifestyles help operators gain a competitive edge and grow revenues."
TCS works in conjunction with Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) center -- managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology -- to gather and deliver satellite assistance data from around the globe. The data is delivered to TCS' TL-9000-certified data centers where it can be quickly and securely delivered to any operator in the world. TCS data centers provide 24 X 7 monitoring and support along with 99.999 percent reliability of service.
TCS has a long history of A-GPS, dating back more than a decade to support today's wireless E9-1-1 emergency services throughout the United States. Recently, the company was awarded its eighth A-GPS-related patent.
