GPS / AVL: Enterprise Wireless Solutions

AEP's decision to install GPS/AVL capability in each of its vehicles was triggered by a corporate-wide initiative to realize improvements in the following key areas:

• Worker safety
• Reaction times to dangerous incidents
• Duration of customer outages
• Categorization of customer call types to improve resolution outcomes
• Reduction of fuel costs

Mentor and AEP decided upon a technical solution that emphasized vehicle tracking, vehicle data collection, and report generation.

Technically, AEP wanted a solution that offered maximum benefit at a minimal cost. Specifically, they wanted a system capable of growing to meet the changing and diverse needs of the company; and they wanted to leverage their existing technology, ultimately reducing the overall costs of the project.
