Case Study: Focus on Security & Operational Efficiency

Source: I.D. Systems, Inc.

TMS Logistics is a family-owned and operated carrier based in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, founded by owner Don Teunissen. TMS runs 70-80 trailers in a blanket wrap operation, delivering furniture, school products, and lab equipment throughout the continental United States. TMS had not considered asset tracking for their fleet of company owned trailers, but were exposed when trailers they leased were equipped with the system.

STOLEN LOAD RECOVERED Renting trailers with the VeriWise system installed paid off for TMS when a driver called to report that his trailer was stolen. The trailer had been left at a truck stop over the weekend because the distribution center could not accept the load on Friday. When the driver checked on the trailer, it was gone. Mr. Teunissen contacted his leasing company, which tracked the trailer for the FBI. The FBI watched the trailer until it was unloaded at a warehouse. They then searched the warehouse, arresting numerous individuals and recovering the vast majority of the merchandise, valued at $242,000.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY That recovered load was proof enough to TMS Logistics that asset tracking pays off, and shortly thereafter they equipped their entire fleet of trailers with the VeriWise system. Now they use the system every day-not just for security, but to run their business more efficiently. Where they once relied on driver calls to determine the status of loads, they now check the VeriWise system. Says JoAnn Davies, "the VeriWise system never fibs about when the driver started, stopped, or ended his trip." TMS uses the Geofencing functionality to determine which trailers are on the yard and available for assignment. Time savings and accuracy of information are huge benefits enjoyed by TMS.
