Florida State Attorney's 15th Judicial Circuit Selects InnerWireless' PanGo
Customer integrates asset tracking into case management system to optimize workflow and efficiency of court proceedings
RICHARDSON, Texas — Nov. 27, 2007 — InnerWireless®, Inc., the leading provider of in-building wireless solutions, today announced that it has integrated its PanGo real-time location system (RTLS) into the Florida 15th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s office STAC case tracking system, enabling the office to promptly locate legal documents for approximately 18,000 felony cases. Under the leadership of State Attorney Barry Krischer, this new solution will help the agency based in Palm Beach County improve its productivity and enhance the efficiency of court proceedings.
Previously, files that were requested with little to no notice often required multiple employees several hours to locate because various divisions could be reviewing a case file anywhere within the 45,000-square-foot, four-floor building. InnerWireless integrated PanGo with STAC, the State Attorney’s proprietary system that houses information for all cases, and with only a few keystrokes, users can now track case file locations across several floors in real-time and display each file on a digital floorplan.
This particular deployment uses off-the-shelf passive RFID readers from ThingMagic and very inexpensive passive RFID tags combined with PanGo’s platform and application software. PanGo supports both RTLS and passive RFID solutions and is actually the first location management platform to aggregate location data from a variety of RTLS and RFID sources and integrate it into the enterprise. For the State Attorney’s office, InnerWireless determined that a passive RFID approach represented the most efficient and cost-effective solution. InnerWireless completed a site survey and engineered all aspects of the tracking solution, including the EPCglobal-enabled tags and antennas.
“After installing PanGo, we saw immediate workflow improvements, and we no longer spend hours searching for files that are urgently and unexpectedly needed in court,” said Dan Zinn, Chief Information Officer for the Office of the State Attorney’s 15th Judicial Circuit. “InnerWireless’ engineering and RF expertise was indispensable in helping us select the best technology for our project. They provided a turnkey, engineered solution to meet our unique needs, including adhering to a specific size requirement for the passive RFID location tags. PanGo is a flexible and scalable platform that supports a full range of RTLS/RFID technologies, which supports our plans to expand our tracking capabilities.”
“ThingMagic worked closely with InnerWireless to design and optimize this solution for the Florida State Attorney's Office, and results were garnered within days of deployment,” said Ravi Pappu, Vice President of ThingMagic’s Advanced Development Group. “Our passive Mercury RFID readers, integrated with InnerWireless' PanGo RTLS solution, enable attorneys and staff to track court documents in real-time, instead of taking hours to locate case files. Every tag read has a measurable ROI from the increased efficiency of day-to-day case processing.”
Over the next one to two years, the 15th Judicial Circuit is looking to expand PanGo’s use to span more floors and include the Misdemeanor and County Court Divisions. It also is evaluating the implementation of more antennas to monitor a file’s movement on a more granular level to verify, for example, whether a file is leaving or entering the building.
“The Florida State Attorney’s 15th Judicial Circuit has taken great strides to expand the usability of STAC and improve its business processes, and Dan Zinn’s creative application of RTLS technology is forward-looking,” said Chris Click, InnerWireless Vice President of Marketing. “This innovative approach to tracking file locations is making a significant impact on the department’s efficiency, and we’re honored to work together on such a novel use of asset tracking technology.”
