Extended Systems' Technology Incorporated Into NEC Mobile Phones
Extended Systems (NASDAQ: XTND), a leading provider of mobile application solutions for the enterprise, and NEC America, Inc. (NEC), a leading provider of innovative communications products, solutions and services, announced today that Extended Systems has licensed its ExtendConnect Mobile Suite, a complete, out-of-the-box PC-to-handset synchronization solution to be used with the NEC 232E+ High Definition Mobile++ (HDM™) handset.
The NEC 232E HDM marks the first mid-tier-priced, GSM™/EDGE handset from NEC. Other great features of the phone include a VGA-quality digital camera, advanced Java™ applications and enhanced multimedia-messaging capabilities. With the Extended Systems' PC-to-handset synchronization solution, NEC extends user personalization and functionality by providing simple synchronization for some versions of popular PC applications like contacts, calendar, tasks, email and notes. Additionally, as an EDGE device, users can sync these applications at a faster speed, making the process more efficient.
Under this arrangement, Extended Systems will embed its SyncML client SDK, an open standard for synchronization, which enables files to be synchronized between a client (mobile) device and a server and its MT-OBEX transport stack into the handset's chipset. This will allow NEC's users a seamless PC-to-handset synchronization in a fast, flexible, and easy to use environment.
"Consumers are looking for an easy-to-install synchronization solution that delivers personalized information to help drive mobile productivity," said Noboru Sakata, general manager, Wireless Division, NEC America, Inc. "After investigating the Extended Systems' solution, we determined it was an outstanding tool for effective information management."
ExtendConnect Mobile Suite consists of three components – a client SyncML SDK, a Windows communication suite and XTNDConnect PC desktop synchronization software that can be bundled with the handset for end-user use. The suite is tailored specifically to meet the needs of mobile handset manufacturers, whereby manufacturers can implement end-to-end SyncML v.1.1.2 compliant synchronization capabilities into mobile phones quickly and easily, decreasing development time and shortening time-to-market.
"Extended Systems' wireless software technologies will enable NEC to deliver enhanced wireless data capabilities for their innovative mobile phones, enabling users to have a seamless experience in moving data between their desktop and phone, and maximizing their productivity while mobile," said Charles Jepson, president and CEO at Extended Systems. "We're committed to providing our licensee community with industry-leading solutions that accelerate the market delivery of highly innovative products in a fast-changing mobile world."
