eSP And Odyssey Software Combine Stay-Linked Wireless Terminal Emulation/Session Management With Athena Device Management

Alliance Enables Device Manufacturers and Their Wireless Technology Integrator Resellers to Add Value with Best-of-Breed Solution Stack

eBusiness Solution Pros, Inc. (eSP) today announced a joint technology alliance with Odyssey Software, Inc. that provides a complete, fully-integrated wireless terminal solution stack combining the only thin-client terminal emulation and Advanced Terminal Session Management (ATSM) solution, eSP's award-winning Stay-Linked®, with the industry's fastest-growing mobile device management software product, Odyssey's Athena Device Management Suite™ (ADMS).

The alliance between eSP and Odyssey represents a growing trend of technology leadership through partnership. Combining Stay-Linked with Athena provides seamless functionality that will add significant value for mobile device manufacturers, resellers and system integrators – many of which are already certified partners with both eSP and Odyssey – and will benefit end-users looking for simplicity, reliability and device independence in a cost-effective solution.

"Odyssey's Athena software, running on the host-application user's mobile terminal device, can now be intelligently accessed from within the Stay-Linked Administrator GUI console," said Mike Pagani, eSP's vice president of sales and marketing. "Help-desk staff can now manage wirelessly-connected terminal devices from within the same centralized console application they rely on for configuring and controlling terminal emulation behavior and executing Advanced Terminal Session Management commands.

"Many of our resellers' customers use wireless mobile handheld terminal devices from a mix of manufacturers – Symbol, Intermec, Hand Held Products, PSC, LXE, AML and others – so having this type of integrated functionality available as a standard for all the devices will be very well received."

The Stay-Linked portion of the newly-integrated solution stack is based on eSP's unique Client2Host™ architecture, whereby all terminal emulation and client device/session control runs natively on the same host system as the Telnet or SSH server, with only a thin-client software component on each wireless terminal device. Stay-Linked's Administrator GUI application provides unique ATSM capabilities for centrally-deployed IT/support staff to monitor, share, transfer and take over host-based wireless terminal user sessions in real time, whether or not the device itself is still functional or connected to the host system.

Commented Tom Robinson, Odyssey Software's executive vice president, sales and marketing: "This is perfect synergy because our Athena Device Management Suite is console-agnostic, which lets our customers leverage existing investments. Our business model depends on partnerships to provide best-of-breed solutions to round out a very complicated task to solve. Utilizing the Stay-Linked Administrator console this way, one simply right-clicks on the desired session, and the Athena device management interface pops up automatically using the TCP/IP address of the device being used as its target; Stay-Linked maintains the intelligence as to the specific device being used for each user's host-based terminal emulation session."

Odyssey's ADMS allows the session manager to remote-control a mobile wireless hand-held device, implement changes to the mobile device remotely, and lock down applications and settings. It also provides a means for the manager to train confused users.

eSP and Odyssey will continue to sell and support their own products separately, while jointly marketing the combined solution stack's competitive advantages to resellers and system integrators certified on both products. They will also make it available to device manufacturers to leverage as "added value" to their hardware.
