Marathon Field Computer Now Available for Supply Chain, Retail and Field Service Enterprises

Atlanta, GA - EMS Global Resource Management, a division of mobile connectivity leader EMS Technologies, Inc. recently announced that the LXE® Marathon™ field computer has begun shipping to enterprises around the world. The fully-rugged device, which runs full Windows® XP with an ergonomic form factor and multiple data input options, enhances process efficiency in applications including: intermodal facilities, warehouse supervision, manufacturing maintenance, quality control, retail line-busting, rental inspection, and industrial field service.

"Our partners and customers are discovering tremendous value while using the Marathon; it is designed to streamline unproductive steps within existing processes," said Dino Koutrouki, Vice President and General Manager, EMS Global Resource Management. "Tasks that involve data input on paper forms, or walking back to a PC to find actionable data, are inherently wasteful, yet most enterprises have been hard-pressed to automate them. The Marathon field computer puts laptop computing power into a form that any worker can use anywhere, at any time."

The Marathon field computer weighs less than a kilogram (2.2 lbs), connects via 802.11 a/b/g/n, and is powered by an Intel® Atom processor that runs full Windows XP operating systems. The device offers multiple built-in data-entry options, including a 7" outdoor-visible touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, integrated fingerprint reader that doubles as a mouse, and a high-resolution color camera. SmartDock cradles allow one-handed undocking and user-friendly peripheral interfaces for both desk and vehicle setups. Additional accessories include a magnetic stripe reader, 2D imager and extended life batteries for continuous 8- or 12-hour operation, all of which mount securely to the unit while maintaining an overall IP rating of IP65 for protection against dust and water.

The Marathon device has been tested extensively with customers and software providers, and has been certified on applications for supply chain, field service, and manufacturing. The initial rollout of the computer is targeting warehouse supervision, manufacturing maintenance, quality control, retail line-busting, rental inspection, and field service "store-and-forward" applications. At less than $2,000 USD, the Marathon field computer's street price falls well below rugged laptops and tablets, and compares favorably with high-end PDAs while delivering greater functionality and value. The Marathon is available for purchase through all of LXE's distributors and partners worldwide.
