Executive Outlook: Embedded Devices Bring Embedded Management Capabilities
By Field Technologies magazine
Every day, countless transactions occur using embedded systems in devices such as vending machines, gas pumps, kiosks, price checkers, and additional devices in the hospitality, financial, and healthcare markets. Embedded and remote devices are not always in plain sight. More than 400 million embedded devices and M2M (machine-to-machine) connections will exist by 2014, when most mobile data traffic will be transferred monthly from embedded computing systems. In 2008, about 75 million embedded devices had cellular communication capability; that number is expected to triple to more than 2.2 billion by 2014. M2M devices with potential of 4G wireless communications will skyrocket, from 40,000 to 12.6 million in 2015.
