DP563 Dolby Surround Encoder
Featuring a digital implementation of the Dolby Surround matrix encoder, the DP563 combines discrete left, center, right, and surround input signals into the matrix-encoded, two-channel Dolby Surround format (Left total/Right total [Lt/Rt]). Programs are compatible with stereo and mono playback, while providing four-channel playback on systems equipped with Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoding.
The DP563 can also premix discrete, 5.1-channel material to the four channels required for Dolby Surround matrix encoding. Individual input level trims are provided for center, surround, and low-frequency effects (LFE) channels. The single surround channel, required for the Dolby Surround Encoder, can be selected from the left or right surround channels, or their sum or difference. LFE-channel processing includes a switchable limiter and a lowpass filter.
Other features include a calibration mode, test-tone generator, reference clock input, output limiter, adjustable output word length with dither, and variable coding delay (field/frame/ms). Front-panel features include an LCD display showing status parameters and LEDs indicating input/output channel activity. Controls are provided for setting configuration parameters, user presets, and LCD display control and limiter functions.
