DHL To Provide Service Parts Logistics Support For IBM Canada

DHL Supply Chain, the world's leading logistics provider, announced a three-year contract to provide a nationwide service parts logistics solution for IBM Canada, whose global logistics operations are owned and managed by Geodis.

DHL Supply Chain will manage service parts inventory for IBM products such as computers, servers, telecommunications equipment and printers. The company will oversee a spare parts network including a 97,000-square-foot distribution center in Markham, Ontario, and 19 internal parts inventory locations (IPIs) throughout the country. From the IPIs — smaller facilities near end-users where products are staged for delivery — service parts are couriered to customers within 30 minutes to 24 hours after order placement. The solution also includes the processing and disposition of field returns and regular scheduled replenishment of the field locations.

"Our service parts solution delivers significant savings, and also simplifies operations for IBM Canada with one point of contact for its service parts business across Canada," said Fred Takavitz, senior vice president of business development at DHL. "We are proud to work with a leading company like IBM and share their commitment to high service standards."

The contract created approximately 40 new full-time positions.

IBM Global Logistics was acquired by Geodis in March 2009. Geodis manages the movement of IBM's hardware and software, as well as asset recovery and its service parts operation around the world. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of SNCF Group.
