Challenge
Manual and paper-based processes that were time-consuming and prone to data-entry errors bogged down high volume order taking and inventory management procedures. Barcoding sought to develop a mobile data collection solution for end-users, requiring a partner that could address a variety of handheld devices, connectivity options and back-office systems.

Solution
Barcoding turned to Extended Systems' server-based development tool designed specifically for small-form device application infrastructure, to create an automatic and scalable identification and data collection solution for Palm OS mobile handheld devices. Collected data, including customer identification, orders and requests, are wirelessly transmitted to the Barcoding database and its vendor-client's order entry system in real time.

Measure of Success
Extended Systems' mobile development tool enabled Barcoding to create the software solution it envisioned, with a variety of available data-collection and work-process activity modules and the ability to manage hundreds of simultaneous connections. Among its customer base, the company reports significant reductions in time and data entry errors, resulting in much higher order volumes.
