Descartes Showcases Advanced Wireless Solution At Global User Group Conference
Descartes Evolution 2009 User Group Conference — Descartes Systems Group, a global on-demand software-as-a-service (SaaS) logistics solutions provider, is showcasing its advanced Wireless Global Logistics Network (wGLN) solutions at its three-day Global User Group Conference that concludes today in Atlanta, Georgia. As announced recently, Wolseley North America is among the leading customers that have selected Descartes' advanced wireless solutions to deliver results.
The wGLN is a centralized hub to manage data from multiple applications across an organization. This data can be used to direct field operations and provide visibility to their status of pickups and deliveries. An extension of the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN), Descartes' wGLN integrates wireless technologies with enterprise route planning and other applications to provide a truly end-to-end shipment management solution. The wGLN supports multiple wireless carrier networks and a variety of mobile technologies, from "black box" and telematics solutions to java phones, Microsoft-based handhelds and cab mounted PCs.
"The Descartes wGLN is an important step to improving our customer's operational efficiency," said Chris Jones, executive vice president of Solutions and Services at Descartes. "It enables companies to proactively manage their resources in the field, whether they are people or vehicles, and measure their plan versus what actually happened."
The open architecture of the wGLN was designed to work in multi-party environments and across enterprises. This capability allows customers to leverage Descartes, third-party mobile solutions or their current mobile technology with Descartes' route planning solutions. In addition, as part of the GLN, customers can send messages, such as proof of delivery, to their customers or other trading partners.
