Datamax - O'Neil's Remote Management Software (RMS) Manages Wireless Printers Remotely

Datamax-O'Neil recently announced the availability of its Remote Management Software (RMS), a dynamic software tool that allows the company's 802.11- equipped portable printers within an enterprise network to be managed from a Windows Desktop. RMS software allows printers to be grouped to a virtual topology, monitors printer status, creates packages to update printers, and remotely initiates the update process for a single or an entire population of printers within an enterprise network.

RMS is the first of several remote management tools that Datamax – O'Neil will make available as part of a strategy that satisfies the unique needs of mobile workplace environments. RMS is designed specifically for Datamax - O'Neil 802.11-equipped portable printers, including the microFlash family of printers, the O'Neil Compact portable printers (OC2 and OC3), and the LP3 label printer. Through RMS, all printers within a network, or selected printers, can receive firmware updates and/or configuration modifications necessary for changing application requirements. In addition, a network administrator can connect, query, configure, and display the status of any printer on the network.

RMS provides state-of-the art capabilities and seamlessly downloads firmware, configuration settings, fonts, and graphics to any printer within the network without intervention by the user. RMS ensures that user errors are virtually eliminated, while maximizing uptime and printer efficiency. In addition, administrators have instant and full visibility as well as total control of their printer network.

"Ease of deployment and application updates as well as reducing printer and operations downtime and its related loss of productivity are key benefits of RMS," explained Endre Vargha, vice president of engineering for Datamax – O'Neil. "RMS' remote, centralized management capabilities saves customers time, reduces on-site travel expenses, facilitates printer user support, and minimizes the overall total cost of printer management. This software tool is a part of our overall strategy to continuously seek innovation to increase the efficiency of our enterprise printing solutions."
