Bluetooth, wireless solution provides accurate, quick barcode scanning in the field

Wilsonville, OR—Corrigo, the leading provider of on-demand service management solutions, and Baracoda, the leading manufacturer of Bluetooth wireless barcode scanners, have teamed together to provide mobile service workers with the tools for an in-the-field inventory management and data capture solution.

Mobile service technicians using Corrigo’s wireless, web-based maintenance management software, Baracoda RoadRunners scanner, and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless device (smartphone, PDA/personal communicator) will be able to scan part numbers, equipment serial numbers and other bar-coded materials quickly and accurately making it easier to do inventory management in the field.

“Inventory management can be complicated.  By offering field service techs the capability to scan part numbers in the field while completing a work order, we make it easier for mobile service technicians to automatically log parts used and update inventory,” explained Richard Michaux, president of Corrigo.

Corrigo users will be able to scan a bar code to populate a selected data field in one of Corrigo’s work order screens that appears on their wireless devices by pushing one button on the Baracoda RoadRunners scanner.  In addition to scanning parts for inventory, users can add serial numbers to information already in the database, such as an existing piece of equipment.  Using bar code scanning will save time, eliminate transcription errors and ensure consistency of data.

“Accuracy, durability and usability are all key considerations when selecting bar coding scanners and technology,” said Michaux.  “We selected Baracoda because it is best in class for durability, usability and simplicity. We tested lots of devices and found that Baracoda would help us solve our customers’ inventory management problem, connect the field to the home office, and give them the best value for the price point.”

“In today’s competitive market space, companies from all types of industries require cost-cutting and time-saving solutions for their field workers’ management processes and recognize the powerful return on investment of applications such as Corrigo’s.  We are glad to work with the leading provider of work order and maintenance service management applications, and we believe that our partnership will be the answer to today’s market requirements,” said Alex Guillot, managing director for Baracoda’s U.S. Operations.  “Both companies are focused on improving the customers’ experience and satisfaction, as well as their internal data capture and inventory processes by providing an efficient, intuitive and easy-to-use solution that impacts their bottom line.”

Corrigo’s comprehensive work order and service management application runs on a variety of Bluetooth wireless device platforms, including BlackBerry, Motorola and Treo, and with several cellular carriers, including Sprint Nextel, Cingular and Verizon.

Baracoda RoadRunners Bluetooth barcode scanner enables fast and accurate barcode scanning using a power-saving imaging technology, fits in a pocket or clips on a belt, can sustain drops from six feet high, and has a long-lasting battery life—more than 30,000 scans.  The Bluetooth technology allows the field service tech to scan from 30 to 330 feet of the host wireless device, depending on the host’s Bluetooth class.
