Companies Need To Do More Than 'Duck And Cover' During Black Swan Events

We might laugh now at how useless that advice was. But that approach is how a lot of companies deal with the supply chain disruptions that can result from a “Black Swan” event, whether that means a hurricane or a terrorist attack. They don’t really have a plan; they just hope it won’t happen.
Last year, Hurricane Sandy was a perfect example of how you can get into trouble if you don’t prepare. It tore through the mid-Atlantic, especially New York and New Jersey, and it opened a lot of eyes in the business world to how companies located thousands of miles away can be effected.
