Clevest AVL Solution Successfully Implemented At City Of Calgary
Multiple business units including water services deploy system enterprise-wide
Clevest Solutions Inc., a leading provider of mobile workforce automation software including smart grid deployment and post-deployment operations exclusively for the utility industry, announced the successful implementation of its automatic vehicle location (AVL) solution for 500 vehicles across multiple business units at the City of Calgary, including Utilities and Environmental Protection, Transportation, Community Services and Protective Services and Corporate Services. The AVL solution provides the foundation for the City's enterprise-wide Common Fleet Operational System (CFOS) initiative, which establishes a comprehensive program to improve the management of the City's vehicle fleet.
"Better managing the City's vehicles, both operationally and from an asset management perspective, represents a significant opportunity to deliver value to the City of Calgary and its people. With the CFOS program, we were chartered with building a corporate wireless mobility infrastructure to do just that," emphasized Michael Michaud, CFOS Program Manager, City of Calgary. "With the Clevest solution, we are lowering fuel consumption, better controlling vehicle maintenance, repair and operating costs, enhancing driver productivity and providing a safer working environment. We also have a scalable, flexible platform in place that we can adapt to accommodate future vehicle-related wireless mobility initiatives," Michaud adds.
"The Calgary implementation is significant to Clevest for a number of reasons," said Doug Engerman, Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, Clevest Solutions. "It calls attention to our ongoing ability to develop leading-edge AVL capabilities that meet customer needs, it shows our expertise in delivering large scale projects like CFOS on schedule and within budget, and it demonstrates that our solution is broadly applicable and scalable across multiple segments of city services in addition to water, gas and electric where we have deep roots," Engerman explained.
The CFOS program is led by a Steering Committee that represents the City's vehicle-equipped business units. Since the fall of 2011, Clevest's AVL solution has been aggressively rolled out in four successive phases and today unites 500 vehicles from Water Services, Waste and Recycling, Roads, Parks, Fire and Fleet Services business units on a common mobile platform. The implementation has gone so well to date that the City recently elected to roll out the AVL solution to an additional 40 vehicles.
Over the coming months, the City will incorporate Clevest's routing functionality interfaced with the City's Esri-based GIS as well as launch Clevest's mobile workforce management solution to select Roads vehicles as a trial. Future considerations include expanding Clevest's AVL solution, mobile workforce management solution and mobile office capabilities to additional vehicles and business units.
By providing organizations with real-time visibility into field operations, Clevest's browser-based AVL solution improves driver productivity and safety, enhances response time, helps control fleet costs and reduces overall fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. The solution is fully integrated with Esri's GIS platform to provide accurate, GPS-based information on the location of vehicle assets and drivers within an organization's infrastructure, and with Clevest's mobile workforce management product to support map-based work assignments and real-time status updates on the progress of activities in the field.
