City Of Anderson Sheds New Light On Old Problem With Fleet Management Solution

Anderson, Indiana is a city with a wide range of dangerous weather patterns including ice storms, blizzard, and summer thunderstorms all of which can cause power outages.  The city covers nearly 49 square miles and had already tried a GPS tracking system to regulate its scheduling but was unsuccessful.

A partner recommended Trimble GeoManager Fleet Management, a cloud computing platform that allows governments to increase productivity and profits by tracking, managing, and optimizing scheduling for its vehicles.

 “We wanted to increase our efficiency when responding to an outage,” says Jason Tuck, the city’s GIS Manager. “Before using Trimble, we tracked the fleet by making phone calls to the field crew and writing their location on a white board. When there were storms, the board looked like a chess game. Now, we know exactly where each vehicle is and can schedule repairs by a truck’s proximity to the outage.”

Anderson’s utility division implemented Fleet Management on 50 of its vehicles with a GPS united to communicate information back to dispatch. This information allows dispatchers to find the closest vehicle when a job is created and route the vehicle there in real-time.
