Cinterion Wireless Modules, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication modules, and Airo Wireless, recognized maker of the world's best ruggedized cell phones, recently announced their collaboration on the Airo A25is, the first ever intrinsically safe, ruggedized cell phone certified for use in explosive, hazardous environments. The Airo A25is uses Cinterion's award-winning MC75i Evolution Platform module for reliable wireless communications. The phone is available immediately and approved for GSM networks around the globe.
The Airo A25is is the only handset on the market that has passed rigorous safety testing required for UL 913 (North America) "intrinsically safe" certification and meets rugged military specifications (MIL-SPEC 810-F/G). It was designed to eliminate or encapsulate any component that could produce sparks or could generate enough heat to cause flammable gasses, dusts or fuels to ignite. This first-of-its-kind ruggedized handset, powered by Cinterion's MC75i wireless module combines voice, built-in GPS, Push-To-Talk (PTT), enterprise data telematics among other features.

A25is is equipped with multi-functional features including a 2.8-inch touch screen. It's rated to survive a fall of almost 50 inches at least 26 times, shock-proof across 1,000 miles of vehicle transport on tough terrain. It can withstand up to 95 percent humidity for 48 hours and immersion in up to five feet of water for 30 minutes.
