Bluesocket Announces BlueSecure 6.3 Wireless LAN Software Platform

Bluesocket, the leader in trusted wireless access and enterprise mobility, recently announced version 6.3 of its software platform designed for the BlueSecure wireless LAN (WLAN) product family. The software release, available in early May 2008, brings full 802.11n support to BlueSecure Controller and Access Point (AP) products, while improving management, security and scalability.

The 802.11n-ready BlueSecure software platform lays the foundation for emerging high-speed wireless networks, providing end users with the optimal mix of security, control and QoS to support advanced network-based applications. Building on Bluesocket's existing flexible, open WLAN architecture, the 6.3 software platform offers AP firmware enhancements for the 802.11n BlueSecure 1800 802.11n Access Point (BSAP 1800) and fully integrated advanced 802.11n RF management capabilities for the full line of BlueSecure Controllers and BlueView Management System (BVMS).

With a focus on infrastructure evolution and advanced RF features, additional key capabilities released in the BlueSecure 6.3 software include:

  • Link aggregation enhancements on the BlueSecure Controller 5200 Medium/Large Enterprise offering, enabling improved scalability and redundancy;
  • New Blueview Management System search engine capabilities;
  • Simplified device management in the Blueview Management System; and
  • Enhanced credit card billing for hot spots in the integrated Guest Access solution included in all BlueSecure Controller models.

"Bluesocket's 802.11n-ready solutions allow customers to maximize mobility within a secure environment while laying the groundwork for a next-generation unified network infrastructure," said Mads Lillelund, CEO and president at Bluesocket. "This software release and our 802.11n product family represent a major milestone in the evolution of our mobility strategy, meeting rapidly growing customer demand for secure and scalable enterprise wireless solutions based on the latest advanced network standards."

Expanding the rich security, high-performance and low latency that Bluesocket products are currently known for, the 6.3 software platform represents the next step in Bluesocket's integrated mobility roadmap. With full 802.11n support, this release provides a solid foundation for Bluesocket's next-generation Virtual Wireless LAN (vWLAN) architecture. Announced in December 2007, vWLAN unifies wireless and existing wired networks to produce a truly integrated and optimized networking solution, allowing customers to dramatically reduce the cost of deploying and operating large-scale Wi-Fi networks.
