In my last column for Field Technologies I wrote about the “Age of Digital Enlightenment” whereby multiple enabling technologies — social, mobile, analytics, cloud (SMAC or Nexus of Forces); 3D printing; open data; near field communications; augmented reality; robotics; and the Internet of Things — will enable transformational change in business. I also said that because of the complexity of our industry, service management will be at the heart of this revolution and for the next five years in particular it will be crucial.
