Asset Management Software: Centennial Software Extends Asset Discovery To Windows Mobile Devices
Centennial Software, the developer of asset management and endpoint security solutions, recently announced support for Windows CE-based devices in its multi-award winning Centennial Discovery solution. The addition of this capability will enable network managers and IT staff to extend their current IT asset management and acceptable use policies across the IT estate, from the largest servers to the smallest PDA and Smartphone devices.
Audit information collected by the new client agents includes the devices' operating system, attached memory, hardware configuration, software installations and file types.
Andy Burton, CEO of Centennial Software, commented: "Organizations are now spending huge sums of money on equipping staff with mobile devices for which they currently have no way of tracking. While these devices are a business-enabler, it is also important for firms to realize that left unmanaged they can become a real risk."
Centennial Software has also announced several other enhancements to Centennial Discovery, including support for Intel-based Macintosh computers, improved recognition of Layer 3 switches and the ability to audit Win64-based machines.
Centennial Discovery user, Rob Kelly at Jupiter Asset Management, said, "Having the ability to monitor all assets on the network, whether they are fixed or mobile, is vital to effective IT management. As mobile devices represent a significant investment by the company, it makes perfect sense to have them included in the central asset repository."
Centennial Software has also announced a time-limited special offer for existing Discovery customers that wish to purchase additional licenses for their Windows CE clients. Customers should contact their Centennial reseller or the vendor directly for more information.
