Appear Networks Names Scott Layman Chief Executive Officer

Appear Networks, a leading provider of wireless communication platforms that enable successful enterprise mobility solutions, announced today that Scott Layman has joined the company as chief executive officer. He succeeds Ann-Louise Palm, who will take on the role of chief operating officer for U.S. operations.

Layman has 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology industries. Prior to joining Appear Networks, he served as COO of Universal Access, a publicly traded telecommunications company in Chicago, and at Megabeam Networks in London. He was co-founder and president of European operations for Global Metro Networks in Switzerland and has held executive management positions with ASCI Network Technologies, XO Communications and e.spire Communications.

"His leadership skills, track record with high-growth companies and knowledge of the industry will contribute significantly to Appear Networks' continued growth as a recognized market innovator in the mobile middleware space," said Philippe Rechsteiner, chairman. "We are very pleased to have Scott at the helm of Appear Networks and are confident that under his leadership, Appear Networks is well positioned for future market success."

"I am excited about the opportunity to lead Appear Networks through its next phase of growth, including expansion into the U.S. market," Layman said. "Appear Networks has always been a visionary in the market, staying several steps ahead of the competition with their technology. I look forward to building on what is in place today and ensuring best-in-class service as we expand into new markets and add new capabilities for our clients."

Appear Networks opened North American operations in 2005 to support the growing demand of its wireless communication platform. "We've experienced rapid growth in the past 12 months, driven by our innovative technical vision of mobile solutions for large enterprises and fuelled by large contracts and deployments in the transportation and public sectors," Palm said. "In the United States, we'll be building on these successes and help position the company to take the next step in its aggressive expansion strategy."
