The M2M market is in a state of rapid expansion. In fact, ABI Research anticipates that the cellular M2M market will rise from approximately 88 million connections in 2010 to roughly 364 million connections by 2016. It's no wonder why — with its recent M2M-enabled smart parking meter installation, Denver has increased its annual revenue by more than $1.5M.

The city of Denver has 600,158 inhabitants. Providing ample parking accommodations to these citizens is a task that falls on the 1,100 workers in Denver's public works department, which includes parking management, transportation planning, engineering, and operations offices. The public works department is responsible for installing and maintaining more than 5,000 parking meters as well as performing parking enforcement activities. The city has 53 control agents who are in the field for parking ticketing and enforcement, 8 mobile workers who collect revenue from the meters, and a team of 5 techs who perform maintenance on the parking meters as needed.
